The EX trim of the Honda Civic featured the same D16Z6 VTEC engine as the Si. What makes the Si faster is the fact that it’s lighter (2,362 vs 2,522 for the EX sedan. Si’s only came in hatchback form). EX models were top-trim level Civics and were highly optioned (power windows, ABS, etc), contributing to the higher weight
The D16 engine features a 7200 RPM redline, with VTEC kicking in at 4,800 RPM. The crankshaft of the D16 is highly robust and has proven to withstand well over 500 horsepower
The EX gets ABS, while the Si does not. For the first two years of production, the EX sedan was the only 5th gen Civic that came with ABS. This changed in 1994 when ABS was added to the EX coupe
Key Model Year Changes:
Final year of no ABS on coupes. The following year (1994) receives ABS
Final year of no passenger airbag (added for 1994)
Very few notable changes occurred throughout the 4 year production run
1995 is the final year for the 5th generation Civic (and final year of OBD1 for the Civic)
