Fast Facts:
- At 2,362 lbs, the Civic Si had the best power-to-weight ratio in the Civic lineup, weighing nearly the same as the Miata. It was not the most powerful, however, as its D16Z6 VTEC engine was shared with the EX model
- The EX models were highly optioned (power windows, ABS, etc) top-trim level Civics, resulting in them weighing between 160-200 lbs more than the Si. This weight penalty was enough for a half-second slower 0-60 time compared to the Si
- The Si came with unique options of its own (not found on other Civic hatchbacks): power sunroof, close ratio 5spd, unique cloth interior, triple sun visor, dash clock, and door storage pockets
- The D16Z6 engine features a 7200 RPM redline (9,000 RPM tach), with VTEC kicking in at 4,800 RPM. The crankshaft of the D16 is particularly robust and has proven to withstand well over 500 horsepower
- ABS did not become an option on the Si until 1994, and it was only offered for that one year. The Si is also the only EG hatchback to come with rear disc brakes
- Si models did not receive alloy wheels – they rolled on 14″ steel wheels with hubcaps
- The easiest way to identify an Si is to look for body-colored door handles – only the Si had these. All other Civic hatchbacks had black plastic handles

- Final year of the 5th generation Civic (EG)
- No notable changes occurred for the final year of production
- Final year of OBD1 for the Honda Civic
- The majority of changes (all minor) occurred in the previous year (1994) such as passenger airbag, optional ABS (1994 only), body-colored front side grills, rear speakers, new “checkered” seat pattern, throttle body mounted MAP sensor (vs firewall), etc
