Fast Facts:
  • In ’04 and ’05, the CTS-V used the LS6 engine and Tremec T56 6-speed manual trans directly from the C5 Corvette Z06. The only required modifications were to the accessory drive and exhaust manifold (for fitment). The redesigned manifold is the reason for the 5 ft/lb deficit in torque to the Z06’s LS6 (which was at 400 ft lbs)
  • During its inception, Cadillac had doubts about using the LS6 from the Z06, as they worried it wouldn’t provide the subdued refinement and finesse that Cadillac buyers were used to (the LS6 camshaft provides quite a lot of overlap for a Cadillac). However, developing a 400hp track capable Northstar V8 wouldn’t be financially feasible, so they stuck with the LS6
  • The main difference between model years is the 2006 switch from the 5.7L LS6 to the 6.0L LS2 (pulled from the base C6 Corvette). The LS6 was phased out when the new C6 Corvette hit production
  • While both the LS6 and LS2 are rated at the same HP/torque and feature the same redline, the LS2’s increased displacement (larger bore, same stroke) gave it a wider torque band. Compared to the LS6, the LS2 provides a more linear thrust all the way to redline, and it’s peak torque occurs 400 rpm lower than in the LS6
  • The CTS-V employs a Getrag limited slip IRS w/ a 3.73 axle ratio
  • The entire CTS line featured a very tight, rigid chassis (a variation of GM’s RWD Sigma platform). The chassis proved stiff enough that it was suitable for use in both the base CTS and the CTS-V, with the only modification being a strut tower brace for the the V
Key Model Year Changes:
  • First year of the CTS-V
  • The following year (2005) was the final year of the LS6 engine from the C5 Z06. ’05 also saw the following changes: XM and OnStar antenna are combined as one, final year of Redline Red
  • 2006 models receive the LS2 V8 from the base C6 Corvette. ’06 models also received a different strut tower brace, updated rear differential, radio controls on the steering wheel, and black center wheel caps (vs the previous silver caps). Power sunroof is now standard
  • 2007 models receive minimal changes, such as XM Satellite Radio with XM NavTraffic
