- Despite having the same engine as its other supercharged siblings, the Eaton roots-type blower used in the S-type R spins 5% faster than the blowers in the XKR and XJR of the same year, allowing it to produce slightly more hp and torque. Total boost is 13.1 lbs fed through two air-to-water intercoolers
- Featured ZF’s new (at the time) 6spd automatic, straight from BMW’s 745i (same gearing and all). The only difference is the transmission’s computer had to be re-tuned to work with Jaguar’s unique “J gate” shifter logic
- The base model S-Type came standard with a Getrag 5spd manual transmission, although it was only paired with the 3.0 V6. Very few S-type Jaguars left the factory with this combination
- To made up for the lack of a limited slip diff, Jaguar programmed the braking system to mimic that of an LSD by slightly engaging a wheel when it loses traction
- Speaking of brakes: the S-type R uses 4 piston calipers from Brembo, with 14.3″ rotors up front and 12.9″ rotors out back
- 2005 R models received a face lift and new headlights/tail lights
- The windshield washer jets are now built into the wiper arms, rather than the hood, for a cleaner look
- While it was never officially advertised by Jaguar, multiple sources claim the 2005 model saw a 20hp bump due to a revised supercharger pulley system
