Fast Facts:
  • Unlike the Corvette-powered CTS-V, the STS-V uses a supercharged Cadillac Northstar engine shared with the 443hp XLR-V. However, in the STS-V, this engine produces its highest output, making the STS-V the most powerful Cadillac ever produced. No surprise here, as this engine utilized the largest production Roots blower in the industry at the time. Nearly 400hp and 439 lb ft of torque are available as low as 2,200 RPM
  • The supercharged 4.4L shares very little with the base Northstar engine found in the regular XLR. Displacement is reduced from 4.6L to 4.4L to withstand the boost from the Roots-style blower, which houses a unique integrated intercooler within the manifold (quite uncommon for a factory supercharger system). The crankshaft is forged steel to handle the power
  • Cadillac spent substantial effort ensuring the STS-V and XLR-V were quiet and subtle – these were not supposed to be shouty muscle cars. The engineers did such a good job that Motor Trend stated in a period road test, “[the XLR-V] idles smoother and quieter than a garden-variety XLR”. Idle quality is improved thanks to the addition rotational inertia of the supercharger
  • Despite the sporty intentions, the STS-V is only 15% stiffer than the base STS in order to maintain the comfortable ride expected in a luxury car. Sachs shocks with custom valving and enlarged front/rear sway bars improve handling over the base car, and the variable-assist power steering system is sharper
  • GM contracted Drexel Meyer to design the STS-V’s leather and suede interior – the same company that did the interior for the Maybach. Suede inserts on the seats help keep passengers planted during hard cornering. The STS-V was also one of the few cars on the market that featured heated rear seats
Key Model Year Changes:
  • First year of the STS-V
  • The following year (2007) saw virtually no changes except for the center wheel caps, which now feature the Wreath & Crest in full color
  • 2008 models received an updated interior. This was also the first year of available lane departure and blind-spot alert system. Head-Up Display is now standard
  • Very few changes occurred for the STS-V during its 3 year production run (2007-2010)
