1987 Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette Convertible for sale

Fast Facts:

  • The Callaway package (RPO B2K) was a factory dealer-ordered option costing $26,995. This was on top of the $36,900 Corvette sticker price (of this particular car). This is the only time in Corvette history that a specialist manufacturer was entrusted with producing a factory high performance option (RPO)
  • The package includes over 2000 proprietary upgraded and CNC machined metal parts
  • The Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette is “quite simply one of the most powerful automobiles ever certified for sale by the EPA. Its turbocharged and intercooled 5.7-liter V-8 puts out a staggering 382 horsepower—more power than any U.S.-spec model currently sold by Ferrari or Porsche. In fact, we know of only one U.S.-market car that can top the Callaway’s formidable power rating: the Lamborghini Countach, which belts out 425 hp”Car and Driver 1989 road test
  • The B2K twin turbo package derived from Callaway’s “Project Sledgehammer” Twin Turbo Corvette, which officially recorded a mind blowing 254.76 mph top speed in 1989 at the Ohio Research Center. Even more impressive: the same car was driven to and from Ohio from Connecticut on public roads, as this was an emissions compliant, street legal vehicle with factory options found on everyday Corvettes (air Conditioning, radio, etc) and a 12 month drivetrain warranty!
  • This earned it the title as the fastest street car in the world – a record it would hold unbeaten for 10 years
Key Model Year Changes:

  • First year of the Callaway Twin Turbo option (RPO B2K)
  • The following year (1988) Callaway increased the power output to 382hp and 562 lb ft torque
  • 1989 was the first year of the ZF 6spd manual transmission, as well as the first year of the Callaway AeroBody kit option
  • 1990 was the first year of the updated interior, and horsepower increases to 390hp
  • 1991 was the first year of the updated front and rear bumpers. Power is increased to 403hp and 582 lb ft torque
  • The Callaway option is discontinued after 1991, as this was the final year of the L98 Corvette engine (replaced by the LT1 the folling year)
