- While Nissan refers to this model as “Truck”, it is known everywhere else as the D21 “Hardbody”. Nissan’s Pathfinder (WD21) was closely related to the D21 truck
- Since 1990, the D21 used the KA24E engine from the 1989-1990 240SX (a V6 was optional). 3 valves per cylinder and multi-point fuel injection helped earn the status as one of the most powerful standard engines in its class. Hydraulic valve adjusters kept the engine quiet and forgo periodic valve lash adjustment service
- A rugged ladder frame allows for a 3,500 towing capacity and 1,400 lb payload rating
- A rare option on the D21 was an in-dash cell phone that could provide hands free operation. It was even available with a headset
- The D21 was replaced with the significantly more modern Frontier (D22) which shared an engine with the Nissan Altima
- However, the D21 remained in production in other countries. In fact, it was produced in Venezuela up until 2014
