- Regular (single cab) 4×4 dually models with the 6spd manual are rated to tow 12,900 lbs (13,000 with the automatic)
- The tow rating is the same for both the 6.0 turbodiesel and 6.8L V10, despite the 6.0 providing 135 lb ft more torque. This is because tow ratings are not determined by engine torque – they are determined by other limitations, such as the brakes, frame strength, and thermal management (how well a truck can shed brake, transmission, engine, and axle heat generated by the increased load of towing)
- The dual rear wheel (DRW) option increases rear traction, improves towing stability, and provides increased rear axle weight ratings
- While the 32 valve 6.0L PowerStroke was cleaner and more powerful than the 7.3L it replaced, it was nowhere near as reliable. Built by Navistar International for Ford, the 6.0 suffered from inadequate head bolts, plugged oil coolers (causing EGR problems), faulty water pumps, and fuel injection control module issues. The good news is that many shops can remedy these problems in one fell swoop, known as “bulletproofing”
- Bulletproofing (done on this truck) preventatively addresses all of the major known issues that plague a particular diesel engine (in the case of a 6.0, there are five). The process involves replacing known faulty parts with more robust aftermarket items. For example, ARP head studs (rated @ 220,000 psi tensile strength) are commonly used to replace the inadequate OEM head bolts. Studs provide a more even clamping force on the head as well as more clamping force for a given torque compared to bolts

- The 6.0 Powerstroke received some much needed updates in 2005: Head bolt problems required Navistar to re-design and reinforce the cylinder heads, and an engine computer re-map gave a slight bump in torque to 570 ft lbs
